Question answered:26/10/06 Warning! this question is over two years old.

We could find no trial data to support such an intervention.

We searched the Guardian website and found some references to zolpidem [1].  However, this article refers mainly to patients in persistent vegetative state.  It does mention stroke, but any reports of improvements appear unsupported by robust research (although the article reports trials are underway).

A search of medline retrieved no clinical trials of zolpidem in stroke and/or cerebrovascular disease.  We also found no trials in the Cochrane Library.
